Braves' Flowers to return, Dickey won't

ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Braves have declined their $8 million option on 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and exercised their $4 million option on catcher Tyler Flowers.

Dickey was the Braves' most consistent starter this season, going 10-10 with a 4.26 ERA in 31 starts. He said at the end of the season he will meet with his family before deciding whether he wants to pitch in 2018.

He gets a $500,000 buyout and becomes eligible for free agency.

Mets to introduce Callaway as manager

NEW YORK (AP) The Mets are set to introduce new manager Mickey Callaway at Citi Field.

The team announced Monday that Callaway has been hired as the 21st manager in franchise history. New York called an afternoon news conference at its home ballpark.

Red Sox hire Houston's Cora as manager

BOSTON (AP) The Boston Red Sox hired Houston Astros bench coach Alex Cora as manager Sunday, turning to a player from their 2007 World Series championship roster to help the team out of its current playoff slump.

"Returning to the Red Sox and the city of Boston is a dream come true for me and my family," Cora said in a statement released by the team. "I look forward to working towards the ultimate goal of winning another championship for this city and its great fans."
