Cavs' Wade to bench, Smith back starting

CLEVELAND (AP) Struggling through three games, Dwyane Wade asked the Cavaliers to take him out of the starting lineup.

Wade is averaging just 5.7 points and shooting 28 percent in his first season with Cleveland. The 35-year-old guard feels it's best for the team if he comes off the bench. J.R. Smith will return to the starting lineup after being bumped to the second team by Wade.

Coach Tyronn Lue praised Wade's selflessness as "big time." He lauded the "future Hall of Famer and a guy that's won three NBA championships" for coming to coach to "see what's best for the team."


Whiteside, Schroder out for Hawks-Heat

MIAMI (AP) Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside is missing his second straight game, sitting out Monday's matchup with the Atlanta Hawks with a bruised left knee.

Whiteside got hurt in Miami's season-opening loss at Orlando, a game where he finished with 26 points and 22 rebounds. He is listed as day-to-day and will be re-evaluated before Miami's Wednesday home game with San Antonio.


Suns fire Watson after 0-3 start

PHOENIX (AP) The Phoenix Suns have fired coach Earl Watson just three games in to the NBA season.

The Suns announced the firing Sunday night after hours of meetings at the team's headquarters.


Wolves stun OKC on Wiggins' 3 at buzzer

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Andrew Wiggins didn't have time to get near the basket for a final shot.

Just inside halfcourt was close enough.


Clippers PG Teodosic out indefinitely

LOS ANGELES (AP) Milos Teodosic has a plantar fascia injury in his left foot and the Los Angeles Clippers say he will be out indefinitely.

The star guard of the Serbian national team was hurt during the second quarter of the Clippers' victory over Phoenix on Saturday.


Suns' Bledsoe tweet: Dont wanna be here

PHOENIX (AP) Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe vented his frustration with the struggling team on social media Sunday as the news of coach Earl Watson's firing surfaced.

"I Dont wanna be here," Bledsoe tweeted.


Pelicans hold off Lakers for first win

LOS ANGELES (AP) The New Orleans Pelicans were watching another double-digit lead evaporate, with the Los Angeles Lakers using a furious 27-4 run to take a five-point lead.

This time, the Pelicans were ready for the challenge.


Irving fined $25K for incident with fan

NEW YORK (AP) The NBA has fined Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving $25,000 for responding to a fan with inappropriate language.

Kiki VanDeWeghe, the NBA' executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the fine Sunday.


Crabbe scores 20, leads Nets past Hawks

NEW YORK (AP) The Brooklyn Nets thought their rebuilding phase was right on track when they signed Allen Crabbe to an offer sheet in the summer of 2016, only to see Portland step in and match it.

After finally being able to acquire him in a trade with the Trail Blazers in July, Nets coach Kenny Atkinson is starting to see some of the intangibles that Crabbe's brings.


Ex-Russian prez jailed for embezzlement

MOSCOW (AP) The former president of the Russian Basketball Federation has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being accused of embezzlement, state news agencies reported on Monday.

Yulia Anikeeva was alleged to have worked with two accountants to channel federation money to companies she controlled.
